Behind the Scenes of Rewriting We’ll Get You There

I’ve been living inside this rewrite for weeks now, and it’s reminding me of something I didn’t expect: rewriting a book isn’t just editing words; it’s editing yourself. Every chapter I revisit shows me who I was when I wrote it, who I’ve become since, and who I’m trying to reach now.

The first edition of We’ll Get You There came from a place of urgency. I had spent years mentoring people through uncertainty, identity shifts, career pivots, and leadership challenges, and I wanted to capture everything I knew in one place. It was a book written by someone who had carried these ideas for a long time and finally needed them out in the world.

This rewrite is different.

It’s slower. More intentional. More honest. More aligned with the clarity-first work I’ve built since then.

And behind the scenes, here’s what I’m discovering.

🌿 1. The book is teaching me as much as I’m rewriting it

Every time I open a chapter, I find myself asking:

Is this still true? Is this still how clarity works? Is this still how people grow?

Some parts hold up beautifully.

Others need to be stripped down, simplified, or rebuilt entirely.

Clarity isn’t about adding more; it’s about removing what doesn’t belong.

And that’s exactly what this rewrite feels like.

🔍 2. I’m writing for who I mentor now, not who I mentored then

When I wrote the first edition, I was guiding people through early-career uncertainty.

Now I mentor people navigating:

• reinvention

• leadership identity

• burnout

• ambition

• the tension between who they are and who they’re expected to be

The book needs to reflect that evolution.

So I’m rewriting with those readers in mind; the ones who are smart, capable, overwhelmed, and quietly asking themselves:

What am I becoming, and is it still me?

✨ 3. I’m removing the “mentor voice” that tried too hard to be helpful

This is the part I didn’t expect.

Some sections of the original book were written from a place of wanting to prove I could help.

They were polished, structured, and tidy but not always true to the messy reality of growth.

Now I’m writing from a different place:

not to prove, but to clarify.

Not to impress, but to illuminate.

Not to guide every step, but to help people see their own.

🧩 4. The rewrite is revealing the real spine of the book

The deeper I go, the more I see the book’s true structure emerging:

• Identity — who you are beneath adaptation

• Environment — the systems shaping your behavior

• Intention — the clarity that pulls you back to yourself

• Shift — the moment you decide to move differently

This wasn’t as explicit in the first edition.

Now it’s becoming the backbone.

🔥 5. I’m writing the book I wish I had when I was becoming myself

This is the emotional part.

I’m rewriting chapters and realizing:

I needed this sentence five years ago.

I needed this tool when I was overwhelmed.

I needed this clarity when I was trying to be everything for everyone.

The rewrite feels less like updating a book and more like finishing a conversation I started with myself a long time ago.

⭐ 6. The book is becoming quieter and stronger

I’m removing the noise.

The fillers.

The over-explanations.

The parts that tried too hard.

What’s left is cleaner.

Sharper.

More grounded.

More human.

Clarity doesn’t shout.

It reveals.

And that’s what this rewrite is doing.

🌱 7. I’m writing with the reader beside me, not below me.

This is the biggest shift.

I’m not writing at people.

I’m writing with them.

The rewrite feels like sitting next to someone who’s trying to figure out who they are becoming and offering the kind of clarity that doesn’t overwhelm, but steadies.
